POPLARVILLE – Jason Irias headed in an Alex Emery cross in the 60th minute to lift the 13th-ranked Pearl River Wildcats over No. 5 Jones Friday night in the conference-opener for both teams.
PRCC handed Jones its first loss of the season as they improved to 2-0-1 and 1-0. Jones fell to 3-1, 0-1.
Scoreless at the half, Emery played a great cross into the box for Irias who headed it in for the game's lone goal.
Both teams had ample opportunities in the match. PRCC owned a slight 15-12 shot advantage and 7-2 edge in corners.
Both keepers finished the night with six saves.
Weather permitting, the Bobcats return to the pitch on Tuesday in Ellisville with a 7 p.m. kick against Gulf Coast on JCJC.TV.
