Warriors sneak past Bobcats in final seconds in 2-1 win

ELLISVILLE – Tied at a goal apiece and the clock winding down in the second half, East Central's Sasha Clare snuck a shot into the lower left corner of the net with six seconds left to lift the No. 12 Warriors over No. 3 Jones College, 2-1, Monday night.

EC snapped a 15-match losing streak to the Bobcats with the victory.

Scoreless after 45 minutes, Nicole O'Neill scored off a free kick just outside the box to give EC a 1-0 advantage in the 60th minute.

Kendyl Terrell found the equalizer for Jones in the 81st minute, using a perfect ball from Keona Crowell on a free kick.

The Warriors then found the go-ahead goal in the 90th minute.

JC dominated in possession and in every statistical category, but EC had the advantage on the scoreboard. The Bobcats outshot EC 15-3 and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Olivia Clark had six saves for the Warriors. Newcomer Makenna Yarrow had one for the Bobcats.

Jones will host Itawamba on Friday, August 27 at 5 p.m. on JCJC.TV.
