OXFORD, Ala. –
Kristian Edwards was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs and
Breley Boykin tossed a one-hit shutout as No. 2 Jones run-ruled Delaware Tech in the NJCAA Tournament opener for both teams Tuesday evening at Choccolocco Park.
Jones won its 22nd straight game in improving to 44-7. Delaware Tech (18-5) dropped its first game this month.
The Bobcats will meet familiar foe Mississippi Gulf Coast in tomorrow's winners bracket game at 4 p.m. DTCC will play Triton in an elimination game at noon.
Jones took a 1-0 lead after one inning, with Edwards doubling down the left field line, stealing third and then scoring on a throwing error.
The Bobcats tacked on four more runs in the second on an RBI-groundout from
Mycah Hall, Edwards' two-run triple and
Lauren Lindsey's RBI-single.
Boykin's lone blemish was a one-out single in the third, but she got a double play ball a pitch later to end the inning.
Jones put the game away in the third to take a 9-0 lead.

Tyesha Cole had a two-run double and Edwards singled to cap the inning.
Boykin retired the final six DTCC hitters in order to close out her 14th win of the year. She allowed just the one hit with four strikeouts.
Jones out-hit DTCC 9-1 with four doubles and a triple.
