CLARKSDALE –
Breley Boykin tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and
Sterling James followed her up with a one-hitter and six punch outs as No. 9 Jones run-ruled winless Coahoma twice, 10-0 and 12-0.
The Bobcats improved to 25-7 overall and 14-6 in league play, currently in fifth place in the standings.
Jones will close out a six-game road swing at Hinds on Wednesday, April 14 in Raymond.
Game 1 – Jones 10, Coahoma 0 (5 inn)
Boykin tossed double digit strikeouts for a fifth time this season,
Tyesha Cole hit a three-run home run and
Lauren Lindsey had four RBIs in the opener.
Jones led 2-0 on a pair of sac flies from Lindsey and
Tia'Rain Saunders and Boykin struck out the side in the first.
The lead was 5-0 in the second, with Cole smacking a three-run shot to left to score
Madison Jones and
Sydney Pevey.
Lindsey doubled to score Cole and Wallace and Saunders' RBI-double extended the lead to 9-0 in the fourth.
Lindsey then capped the scoring for Jones in the fifth with an RBI-single.
The top of the Bobcat lineup went 6-for-9 with seven RBIs.
Game 2 – Jones 12, Coahoma 0 (5 inn)
A seven-run second inning put the game out of reach early, and James allowed just one hit with six strikeouts, as Jones made quick work of the Tigers for a sweep.
Nia Luckett's inside-the-park home run got the scoring started in the first.
The Bobcats then struck for seven runs in the second, highlighted by
Chantel Schurr's three-run double and grand slam from Lindsey.
Skylar McLellan's RBI-double made it 8-0 in the top of the fourth before James' perfect game was broken up with a hit in the bottom half.
Jones added four more in the fifth to push the final margin to 12-0.
Luckett, Lindsey,
Meagan Wynne, McLellan and
Maycee Knight all had multiple hits.
