Bobcats bounce back at Co-Lin after game one walk-off homer

WESSON – No. 9 Jones College split a softball doubleheader at No. 5 Co-Lin on Tuesday evening, giving up a walk-off home run in a 5-4 loss in the opener before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.

The Bobcats moved to 23-7 overall and 12-6 in the MACCC. Co-Lin is now 22-4 and 17-3 in league play.

Game 1 – Co-Lin 5, Jones 4

Leading 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Jones allowed a three-run home run to Carlon Brabham to tie it and then a solo shot by Abigail Carter to walk-off the Bobcats, 5-4.

Jones trailed 1-0 in the fifth before a leadoff walk from Tia'Rain Saunders, single by Meagan Wynne and two-run single from Lauren Pope. Kat Wallace's sac fly made it 3-1 Jones.

Nia Luckett singled and came around to score on a hit-error, and Jones led 4-1 in the sixth before the walk-off hit in the final frame.

Both teams finished with six hits apiece.

Game 2 – Jones 3, Co-Lin 2

A one-out triple by Luckett and back-to-back singles gave Jones an early 2-0 lead in the first and they would hold on to win the finale.

Kristian Edwards' solo shot in the second extended the lead to 3-0.

Breley Boykin started and went 2.1 innings. Sterling James got the win in 4.2 relief frames, scattering four hits, no earned runs and two strikeouts.

Jones will travel to Coahoma on Saturday.
