FULTON – Jones broke away from a one-goal lead at the half and poured it on late to hand No. 7 Itawamba a 4-0 loss in the season-opener for both teams on Friday.
The win for the Bobcats (1-0) was their 12th straight over the Lady Indians (0-1), last season's MACCC runner-up. They've outscored them 53-1 during the win streak.
Kendyl Terrell got the scoring started for Jones in the 42nd minute on a counter attack, with
Caragan Childs sending a great through ball which Terrell hammered home for the goal.
Acacia Rodriguez extended the Bobcat lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute, one-touching a perfect ball from
Zylah Mulligan.
Poppy Binding and
Bekah Baugh followed with goals in the 78th and 79th minutes, both assisted by Terrell.
Jones outshot Itawamba 19-9, including 8-1 on goal. The Bobcats also had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Danae Fowler had one save in 79:33 between the posts and
Abigayle Green played the final 10:27 in a combined shutout.
