POPLARVILLE – Lightning struck twice for Pearl River on Monday night.
Just like the women's match, the Wildcat men scored an overtime goal in the waning seconds for a golden goal. This time, with 12 seconds remaining in double overtime.
John Mark Rose gave No. 7 Jones a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, taking the rebound off his missed penalty kick and sending it in.
The lead held through the half and into the 63rd minute until PRCC tied the match on Alex Emery's goal.
Tied after 90 minutes and a first 10-minute overtime period, the teams looked destined for a draw.
But with time winding down, PRCC battled for a ball on the out-of-bounds line right by the net where Bradley Stines won the ball and passed it to Jamie Chamberlain who scored with all sorts of traffic in front of the goal for the game-winner.
The teams were evenly matched in the stat column, with the Wildcats holding a 13-10 edge in shots. Both keepers finished with five saves apiece.
Jones was whistled for 18 fouls and five yellow cards.
The Bobcats will return home on Friday to host No. 5 Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. on
