Lauren Lindsey fuels record-setting day at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD – Adversity causes some to break, others to break records.

The No. 2 ranked Jones College Bobcats did just that on Friday at Mississippi Delta, rebounding in emphatic fashion from a doubleheader sweep at Itawamba just 16 hours earlier.

Jones scored 40 runs in the sweep of the Trojans, including a program-record 31 in the opening game of the day.

Game 1 – Jones 31, Delta 0 (5 inn)

Lauren Lindsey led an offensive onslaught in Game 1, going 4-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBIs, followed by four hits from Mackenzie Jones and three from Maycee Knight who also had a home run and six RBIs.

JC led 10-0 after two and continued to pour it on with 11 in the third.

The Bobcats scored 31 runs on 26 hits, with 13 different players getting at least one hit.

Sterling James scattered five hits, seven strikeouts and no runs to improve to 5-0.

Game 2 – Jones 9, Delta 0 (5 inn)

Breley Boykin tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the finale to close out the sweep.

Lindsey homered for the fourth time in four games in the win, this time a solo shot.

Bobbie Amond added a double and Tia'Rain Saunders was 2-for-3.

JC stole 11 bases combined on the day to run their season tally to 51 bags in 55 tries.

The Bobcats will travel to Meridian for a pair on Monday, March 8. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on the JC Softball Facebook page.
