SUMMIT – Trailing by 14 with under six minutes to play in the third quarter, No. 2 Jones used a 19-0 run to take control and pull away for a 58-44 win Thursday night at Southwest.
The Bobcats stayed unbeaten on the year at 10-0, 8-0 in MACCC play, while Southwest fell to 5-3 and 5-3 in league play.
Leading 12-6 midway through the opening quarter, the Lady Bears outscored the Bobcats 9-0 to take a 15-12 lead on an Analya White three pointer with 2:01 on the clock.
Southwest maintained a small advantage into the half, 25-21, and seemed poised to blow the game wide open in the third.
A Sydni Tangle three started a 12-2 Lady Bear run as they extended their lead to 37-23 with 5:24 left in the third quarter.
JaKayla Johnson and the Bobcats responded by scoring the next 14 points of the quarter to tie the game at 37-37 after three.
That 14-0 run turned into 19-0 as Jones held Southwest scoreless for 6:59 to take a 42-37 lead. A big offensive rebound and putback by
Endia Holliday with 6:39 to play capped the run.
Jones outscored Southwest 21-7 in the final 10 minutes to win its seventh game in 10 tries by double figures.
Johnson finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead all scorers, with
Lekera Hughes adding 12 and Holliday 10 points.
Kyjai Miles pulled down 10 rebounds and
Daisha Bradford had six dimes.
McGee led the Lady Bears' offense with 16 points.
Jones shot 39 percent from the floor and held Southwest to just 25 percent shooting.
