Bobcat offense held in check in road sweep at Northwest

SENATOBIA – The Jones College offense was held to a combined four runs on 11 hits as Northwest Mississippi swept a doubleheader over the Bobcats Saturday afternoon at Jim Miles Field.

Northwest improved to 14-10 overall and 8-6 in the conference, winning for the first time over Jones since 2017. The Bobcats fell to 15-13, 8-6 in the MACCC.

Jones will close out an eight-game road trip on Wednesday at Gulf Coast.

Game 1 – Northwest 5, Jones 2

Three solo home runs in the first, third and seventh was more than enough offense to lift Northwest to a Game 1 victory.

Held scoreless through eight innings, Jones loaded the bases and scored a pair in the ninth to cut it to 5-2, but left the bases loaded to end the game.

Josh Hill scattered six hits, two runs and six strikeouts to improve to 1-1, and John Luke Marlin got the final out for his second save.

Kameron Partridge was hit with the loss in 6.1 innings of work.

Game 2 – Northwest 3, Jones 2

Dalton Rogers allowed just two hits and tossed 11 strikeouts, but had his stellar outing spoiled on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh as Northwest walked-off for the sweep.

Murray Hutchinson's RBI-groundout gave Jones its first lead of the day in the third, but Northwest tied the game in the bottom half on Garrett Riggs' solo homer.

Hunter French's RBI-groundout made it 2-1 Bobcats in the fourth, and they would hang on into the seventh with a chance to split.

After getting a leadoff fly out, Rogers walked back-to-back batters and was relieved by Garrett Langrell

A fly out to center had Northwest down to its final out, but they would tie the game a batter later on Dylan Hale's infield single that ricocheted off Langrell's glove. A bang bang play at first went in favor of the home team, and after another walk, Cade Spratlin would come home on a wild pitch to win it for the Rangers.

Jones was held to four hits.
