ELLISVILLE –
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) and
Sterling James (DeSoto Central) came up big for No. 8 Jones College here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Luckett smashed a two-out solo home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Bobcats an 8-7 win in game one. James then tossed a complete-game shutout as Jones won game two, 7-0.
The Bobcats, 20-4 overall and 9-3 in the MACCC, host Southwest in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Monday. The games will air on JCJC.TV.
Northwest, 10-8 overall and 7-7 in conference play, hosts Holmes on Wednesday.
Game 1 – Jones 8, Northwest 7 ( 8 inn)
The Bobcats trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.
Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) led off the inning with a single and
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) followed with a two-run home run. After a
Meagan Wynne (Richland) single,
Maycee Knight (Enterprise-Clarke) hit another two-run homer to give the Bobcats a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Saige Koczka hit a solo home run to tie it up. Caylee Comer was hit by a pitch and Maddie Brower followed with a two-run home run to give the Rangers a 7-5 lead.
But in the bottom of the seventh, Lindsey reached on an error and Saunders followed with her second home run of the game and team-leading ninth of the season to tie the game at 7-7.
Breley Boykin (Jackson Prep) went the distance and claimed the win. She allowed seven runs (six earned), nine hits, walked two and struck out nine. She is now 10-2 on the year.
Saunders had the two home runs and drove in four runs and Wynne had three singles. Luckett and Knight each homered and singled and Lindsey singled twice.
Koczka homered twice, singled and drove in four runs for Northwest. Brower homered twice, singled and had three RBIs.
Kaylei Peterson took the loss. She pitched 7.2 innings, allowed eight runs (six earned), 12 hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Game 2 – Jones 7, Northwest 0
James was in command the entire game.
She only threw 74 pitches, allowed four hits, walked none and struck out six. She is now 7-0 on the season.
Tyesha Cole (Philadelphia) led off the bottom of the first with a home run and the Bobcats never looked back.
Lindsey doubled twice, singled and had two RBIs and Knight had a triple, double and a single. Cole homered and singled, Saunders had two singles and drove in two runs and Wynne had a pair of singles.
Comer singled twice for Northwest.
Koczka pitched all six innings for the Rangers and took the loss. She allowed seven runs (four earned), 13 hits, walked none and struck out two.
