ELLISVILLE –
Kristian Edwards (Laurel) and
Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama) homered and
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) tossed a complete-game to lead No. 8 Jones College past No. 20 Southwest Mississippi 10-2 in six innings in game two.
The Bears won the opener 6-2 here Monday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
The Bobcats, 21-5 overall and 10-4 in the MACCC, will host No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on March 30.
Southwest, 15-7 and 7-5, hosts MGCCC on April 6.
Game 1 – Southwest 6, Jones 2
Southwest broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fifth inning and went on to grab the win.
Jones had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a
Meagan Wynne (Richland) home run.
The Bobcats got an RBI double from Lindsey in the sixth to score Edwards.
Kat Wallace (Brookhaven) doubled twice and singled for the Bobcats with Lindsey adding a double and a single.
Starter
Sterling James (DeSoto Central) went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs, five hits, two walks and recording two strikeouts. She took the loss, falling to 7-1.
Breley Boykin (Jackson Prep) pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and recording three strikeouts.
Jensen Gremillion went the distance and got the win. She gave up two runs, seven hits, walked five and struck out six. She is now 9-1 on the year.
Bailey Buckley homered and drove in two runs for Southwest and Madison Moak had two singles.
Game 2 – Jones 10, Southwest 2 (6 inn)
Lindsey led off the third inning with her ninth home run of the season to put Jones up 3-0. Edwards led off the fourth inning with her 10th home run of the year to give the Bobcats a 7-2 lead.
Edwards and Lindsey each added singles.
Maycee Knight (Enterprise-Clarke) and Wynne both doubled and singled and
Tyesha Cole (Philadelphia) had two singles. Wallace and
Tia'Rain Saunders (Choctaw Central) both added doubles.
Luckett gave up two runs (one earned), five hits, walked three and struck out seven as she improved to 4-2.
Buckley homered for the Bears.
Jade Latham, the first of four Southwest pitchers, tossed 2.0 innings and got the loss. She is now 4-6 on the season.
