Seventh-inning Game 2 rally helps No. 6 Jones split with Northeast

ELLISVILLE – After dropping the opener 8-1 and trailing 7-1 in Game 2 against Northeast Mississippi, a four-run bottom of the seventh helped No. 6 Jones rally for a walk-off win to split the day.

Jones moved to 18-4 and 7-3 in conference play, while Northeast moved to 11-9 and 4-6 in the MACCC.

The Bobcats continue a season-long, 10-game home stand on Tuesday when they welcome Southwest Mississippi to The Bank.

Game 1 – Northeast 8, Jones 1

Briley Pitt's three-run home run in the second inning set the tone for Northeast as they pounded out 12 hits en route to a Game 1 victory.

Lauren Lindsey's RBI-single in the third plated Tyesha Cole for the Bobcats' lone run.

Hannah Milhorn's two-run double in the fourth and Taylor King's solo home run in the sixth helped put the game away.

Lindsey had two of Jones' five hits. Caroline Clark was 4-for-4 to lead Northeast at the plate.

Cassidy Duskin (5-5) kept Bobcat hitters off balance all game, scattering nine strikeouts, five hits and the lone run.

Breley Boykin was chased after three innings for Sterling James who allowed one earned run on nine hits over the final four innings.

Game 2 – Jones 9, Northeast 8

Northeast jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and led 7-1 in the third before Jones mounted its largest comeback of the year.

Tyesha Cole's RBI-single, followed by Kristian Edwards' two-run homer made the deficit 7-4 after three.

The teams traded runs in the fifth on Charly Clanton's RBI-single for Northeast and Meagan Wynne's infield single for Jones to make it 8-5 Tigers.

Boykin (9-2) then came on in relief of Nia Luckett and mowed down Tiger hitters for 2.2 innings, striking out five with no hits to give JC a chance in the seventh.

Mackenzie Jones was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning. Tyesha Cole singled and Edwards walked to load the bases and put the winning run at the plate. Lindsey's two-run single to right and Tia'Rain Saunders' RBI-single to left tied the game at 8-8. Wynne then delivered the walk-off winner with a single to left-center to score pinch runner Mycah Hall for the win.

The top of the Bobcat order (Cole-Edwards-Lindsey) combined to go 7-for-11 with six RBIs and six runs scored. Wynne and Nia Luckett added two hits.

Duskin, who picked up the Game 1 win, allowed two runs on three hits in the seventh and didn't record an out to take the loss.
