No. 2 Jones Blasts Nine Home Runs in Sweep of Coastal Alabama-South

ELLISVILLE – Kristian Edwards and Tia'Rain Saunders combined for five of Jones' nine home runs on the day and a dozen Bobcats had at least one hit in a sweep of Coastal Alabama-South.

No. 2 Jones improved to 6-0 and CACC fell to 4-5 with the sweep.

The Bobcats' Friday contest with Baton Rouge has been postponed to March 31. They'll host John A. Logan on Monday, Feb. 22 at noon (was Feb. 16).

Game 1 – Jones 14, CACC 2

A 10-run fourth inning – highlighted by home runs from Lauren Pope and Saunders and Tyesha Cole two-run double – broke open a 4-2 ballgame and allowed Jones to end the opener in five innings.

Lauren Lindsey got the home run party started with a two-run blast to center in the first.

Kaelyn Campbell's two-run homer tied the game at 2-2 in the third, but reigning MACCC Pitcher of the Week Breley Boykin would retire the final nine Sun Chiefs in order to improve to 3-0 in the circle.

Ten different Bobcats had a hit, including McKinley Weeks and Sydney Pevey.

Game 2 – Jones 10, CACC 2

Edwards started and finished the game for No. 2 Jones, hitting a three-run homer to open the scoring in the third and blasting a two-run shot to center to walk-off the game in the sixth.

Pope also homered in the third to make it 4-0, Maycee Knight homered in the fourth to make it 5-1 and Saunders homered in the fifth to make it 8-1.

Katherine Richardson and Brooke Cooper plated the lone two runs for Coastal off an RBI-single and double. Nia Luckett and Carly Lewis picked up their first hits as Bobcats.

Sterling James improved to 3-0 in the circle, scattering five hits, four strikeouts, no walks and one earned run.
