Blalock's Strong Outing Helps No. 12 Jones Split at East Central

DECATUR – Wyatt Blalock tossed 5.1 strong innings to help lift No. 12 Jones College to a 6-3 game two win to split a doubleheader at East Central on Sunday.

Jones (1-3) picked up its first win of the young season in the game two win. ECCC also moved to 1-3 on the year.

The Bobcats will return home Tuesday to host Southwest Mississippi in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on JCJC.TV.

Game 1 – East Central 10, Jones 3

East Central broke open a 2-0 ballgame with four runs in both the fifth and seventh frames to win the opener.

Jacob Holifield's two-run single, followed by Kade Turnage's two-run double made it 6-0 in the fifth and Zach Flaskamp then entered in relief of Preston Ratliff.

Hunter French's RBI-single scored Ratliff in the seventh to make it 6-1 – after back-to-back stolen bases – and French would come around to score on a balk to make it 6-2.

The Warriors plated four in the bottom of the frame to put it out of reach, scoring off Turnage's two-run single, a J.T. Vance single and error.

Ratliff's sac fly in the ninth made the final 10-3.

Gage Tufnell went 6.1 innings for EC, allowing just one run on five hits for the win. Turnage had four RBIs.

DeeJay Booth, French and Ratliff combined for six of the Bobcats' seven hits.

Game 2 – Jones 6, East Central 3

Jesse Johnson homered, DeeJay Booth homered and Blalock was solid on the hill as Jones picked up its first win in the nightcap.

Chase Honeycutt hit an RBI-double and came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 in the fourth. Booth's solo shot to right made it 5-0 in the fifth.

EC scratched across single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to pull within 6-3 before Garrett Langrell was able to close out the game on a flyout to right.

Blalock scattered one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts for the win.
