FULTON – The Jones College Bobcats defeated Itawamba 8-1 here Thursday afternoon at the Johnson/Partlow Tennis Complex.
Jones is now 9-1 overall, 8-1 in the MACCC. The Bobcats will host Meridian in a 2 p.m. match on March 2.
Itawamba, 4-3, hosts Wallace State-Hanceville (Alabama) on Saturday.
Jones swept the doubles' points.
Gaspar Meda (Argentina) and
Daniel Panzica (Brookhaven) edged Sergio Garcia and Rhonzo Olaechea in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
Nacho Vanecek (Argentina) and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) defeated Grayson Godbold and Jacambrian Madlock in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Braxton Wallis (Brookhaven) and
John Jabour (Warren Central) defeated Russell Moorman and Torean King in No. 3 doubles, 8-4. In an extra match,
Ryan Myers (Madison Central) and
Jack Owens (Brandon) won, 8-1.
Meda rallied past Garcia in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 7-5, 13-11. Meda was down 9-3 in the tiebreaker in a match that lasted 2 hours, 52 minutes. In No. 2 singles, Vanecek whipped Olaechea, 6-1, 7-5. Panzica came back to beat Godbold in No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. In No. 4 singles, Hilton beat Madlock 6-1, 4-0 (retired). Myers outlasted King in No. 6 singles, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6.
Greyson Parman (Warren Central) fell in a close match to Moorman in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 8-10.
In extra matches, Wallis blanked Luke Bolen, 6-0, and Owens beat Will Buskirk, 8-5.
