No. 7 Jones survives a scare in Wesson, 60-57 in overtime

WESSON – Co-Lin's Derrica Gilbert banked in a 3-pointer at the top of the arc to force overtime before Kamryn Estell's jumper put No. 7 Jones on top for good and allowed them to hang on for a hard-fought, 60-57 road win.

Jones improved to 6-0 in handing Co-Lin (3-1) its first loss of the season.

The Bobcats preached defense all week in practice and did just that Thursday night. Co-Lin shot 25 percent from the floor and was held to just three field goals the entire second half.

Jones led by as many as seven and Co-Lin by as many as five in a back-and-forth game that went down to the wire.

Jayla Alexander's 3-pointer gave Jones a 22-20 lead at half and that would build to a 31-24 advantage with 3:27 left in the third.

Co-Lin rallied to score the final eight points of the third quarter – all on free throws – and led 32-31.

With the Bobcats up 47-42 with 10 seconds left in regulation, a three by Jana Case and banked in three by Gilbert forced overtime at 48-48.

In the extra period, Estell's two jumpers and one by Alexander pushed the lead to six. Co-Lin rallied to within 58-57 with six seconds left before JC was able to ice it on two Alexander free throws.

Three Bobcats finished in double figures, led by 16 from Alexander, 15 points and 10 rebounds from Daisha Bradford and Endia Holliday's 15-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Orlandrea McGee had a game-high 20 for Co-Lin, 11 of those coming from the free throw line.

Jones shot 26 percent on the night and was just 4-of-32 from deep.

Monday's home game against Hinds has been postponed to Friday, March 12. Jones will host Shelton State on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
