GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – An own goal in the 24th minute was the lone blemish on a dominating performance on Sunday from second-ranked Jones College.
Jones defeated No. 4 Southwestern Illinois, 4-1, behind a pair of goals from
Kendyl Terrell and one apiece from
Zylah Mulligan and
Izzie Scott.
Jones improved to 6-1 and has now outscored the opposition 30-2 over seven matches.
SWIC (12-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on an own goal. A header by Haley Kimes bounced off the turf and then was kicked in by a Bobcat defender to give the Blue Storm their only lead.
Mulligan evened the match in the 38th minute after a great ball in from Terrell.
Terrell then scored back-to-back within a two-minute span to give JC a 3-1 lead at the break.
Just 5:33 into the second half,
Jackie Dilorenzo found
Izzie Scott right in front of the box and Scott drilled it home for a 4-1 lead.
Danae Fowler went the full 90 in goal and improved to 2-0 on the year with four saves.
Jones outshot SWIC 17-7, including 11-4 on goal.
The Bobcats step back into MACCC play on Thursday, playing host to Gulf Coast at 7 p.m.
