SUMMIT – Scoreless through 59-plus minutes to start the match,
Andrew Craig and
Leighton Jameson each scored second half goals to lift No. 8 Jones to its ninth straight win over Southwest, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
Jones has officially clinched a postseason spot and will make a run at a fourth consecutive conference title. The Bobcats, 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the south, need to win their final two matches and have a little help from Pearl River if they're going to host a conference playoff match in two weeks.
Southwest fell to 5-9 overall and 1-7 in the south division.
Blake Miller's great ball into the box found the feet of Craig in the 60th minute who drilled it home for the go-ahead goal.
Jameson took a
Brodie Rials cross from the left side and scored to make it 2-0 Bobcats in the 73rd minute.
Southwest avoided the shutout with a Nahuel Cruz goal with six seconds left in regulation.
Jones out-shot Southwest 18-7, including 14-3 on goal. JC also had eight corners to the Bears' one.
Garrett Wise was challenged just three times, stopping two. Cooper Odom had a dozen saves for the Bears, several big ones in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bobcats will play their final regular season home match on Friday, playing host to No. 17 Meridian at 7 p.m.
