PERKINSTON –
Zylah Mulligan took the ball near midfield, made a few moves and then banked a 30-yard golden goal off the far post to lift No. 2 Jones over Gulf Coast in the 98th minute Friday night.
Jones won its ninth consecutive match, including eighth by shutout, to improve to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in south division play. Gulf Coast fell to 5-6 and 3-4 in the south.
Both teams hit the crossbar in the opening half, denying goals from both sides.
The match remained scoreless through the first 90 minutes and into overtime despite a 23-4 shot advantage for the Bobcats.
Mulligan hit the crossbar late in the second half, but then found redemption in extra time.
Skylar Steede kept MGCCC in the match with seven saves, while
Danae Fowler was tested only once.
Jones controlled possession for most of the match, drawing seven corners to MGCCC's two. The teams were whistled for a combined 17 fouls and no cautions.
The Bobcats travel to Southwest on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. kick in Summit.
