PERKINSTON – The 6th-ranked Jones College Bobcats defeated No. 10 Gulf Coast 4-1 here Friday night at Bary Thrash Field.
The win improves Jones to 8-3 overall, 4-3 in the MACCC South Division. The Bulldogs fall to 7-5 overall, 5-2 in the division.
Jones led 2-0 at halftime. The Bobcats were up 4-0 when Gulf Coast got its only goal in the 84th minute.
Elean Fajardo (Oak Grove) scored off an assist by
Bennett Gibson (Sacred Heart) in the 19th minute.
Blake Miller (Madison St. Joe) scored off a rebound in the 25th minute.
Leighton Jameson (Ireland) scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute and
Kelton Keene (West Jones) got a goal on a
Mason Morgan (Jackson Prep) assist in the 67th minute.
It's a huge and important three-goal win, keeping Jones alive for the south's No. 2 seed and a home playoff game in November.
Garrett Wise (Madison Central) was in goal for the Bobcats.
Jones travels to Southwest for a 4 p.m. match on Tuesday. Gulf Coast hosts Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday.
