CLINTON –
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) led five players in double figures to lead No. 10 Jones College to an 81-65 victory over Copiah-Lincoln in the Region 23 quarterfinals here Wednesday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.
The Bobcats (22-4) will now face LSU Eunice (21-6) at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. LSUE defeated Southwest Mississippi on Wednesday, 71-66.
In other games, Northwest Mississippi upset East Mississippi, 56-53 and Mississippi Gulf Coast knocked off Itawamba, 76-71. Northwest faces MGCCC at 5 p.m. Thursday in the other semifinal contest.
The championship game is slated for 5 p.m. Friday. The winner of the tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament March 16-21 in Lubbock, Texas.
Keyara Jones had four 3-pointers and led Jones with 18 points.
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) posted her 14th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had 12 points and five assists.
Jordan Clark (South Jones) had 11 points and five rebounds and
Jatyjia Jones (Pontotoc) finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) had seven assists and
Ebony Gayden (McComb) pulled down six rebounds.
Jones got off to a slow start and trailed 18-16 after the opening quarter. But the Bobcats used a 16-2 run to take command in the second quarter.
Allen tied the game at 20-20 with a 3-pointer and
Keyara Jones made the first of her three second quarter treys to give the Bobcats the lead for good at 23-20 with 8:29 to play in the first half. Clark's layup ended the run and put Jones ahead 33-22 with 6:43 left in the second quarter.
Jatyjia Jones' two free throw with 1:42 showing gave the Bobcats their longest lead of the game at 43-24. The Bobcats led 43-29 at halftime.
Haymer's layup at the buzzer put Jones ahead 62-46 entering the final quarter. The Wolves never got closer than 14 points.
The Bobcats shot 43 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range. Co-Lin shot 36 percent from the floor and just 12 percent from the 3-point range.
Jones held a 51-37 advantage in rebounding.
Sha'Quandra Carter led Co-Lin with 20 points and 12 rebounds. TaMara Riley added 13 and Camryn Davis had 10.
The Wolves end the season at 13-11.
