Box Score MERIDIAN – The 20th-ranked Jones College Bobcats had a productive day on the courts here Saturday at the Northeast Tennis Center.
Jones defeated the defending NJCAA Division III champions, Oxford-Emory (Georgia), 8-1. The Bobcats then beat Hinds 8-1 in the conclusion of a match that had been suspended by rain on Feb. 4.
Jones, 3-0, will host Meridian at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Jones swept the doubles' matches.
In No. 1 doubles,
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) and
Kwanda Mbalekwa (South Africa) beat Kavi Jain and Bryce Guenther, 8-2.
Daniel Panzica (Brookhaven) and
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) defeated Kevin Yan and Michael Ru in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Gaspar Meda (Argentina) and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) blanked Colin Ku and Jeremy Cai in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Meda beat Yan in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1 and Panzica downed Ru in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Johnson whipped Guenther in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Hilton downed Cai in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1. McWilliams defeated Ku in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Mbalekwa dropped a close match in No. 1 singles to Jain, 4-6, 6-7.
In extra matches,
Ryan Myers (Madison Central) beat Dominick Garcia, 6-4, 6-2 and
Greyson Parman (Warren Central) defeated John Funda, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
