No. 10 Bobcats now 9-0 in division play after win over Hinds

ELLISVILLE – Five players scored in double figures to help No. 10 Jones College defeat Hinds 70-60 here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
It was the ninth straight victory for the Bobcats.
 
Jatyjia Jones (Pontotoc) scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to pace the Bobcats. Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) added 14 points and LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) had 11 points and seven rebounds. Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) had 10 points and six assists and Daja Woodard (Mobile, Alabama) had 10 points and nine rebounds.
 
Jones, 15-2 overall and 9-0 in the MACJC South Division, heads to Pearl River for a 5:30 p.m. game on Thursday. The game will air on www.prccmedia.com.
 
The Bobcats had to battle vs. the Bulldogs.
 
Jones led 13-11 after the first quarter and saw Hinds take its longest lead of the game at 26-17 with 6:03 left in the second quarter when Corrianna Wheatley made two free throws. 
 
But the Bobcats went on a 12-0 run capped by two Ty Jones free throws and took a 29-26 lead with 1:05 to play in the second quarter. Jones led 32-27 at halftime.
 
Jones took the lead for good with 4:17 to play in the third quarter when Jordan Clark (South Jones) hit a jumper to make it 42-40. The Bobcats led 52-45 entering the final period.
 
A Woodard layup off a Sims' assist with 6:04 left in the game gave Jones its largest lead at 64-49.
 
Jones outscored Hinds on points in the paint, 42-26.
 
McKinley Ware led Hinds with 20 points, Wheatley had 12 and Amaz Carmichael added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Bobcats were 29-of-72 from the field (4-of-18 from 3-point range) for 40 percent. They were 8-of-10 from the free throw line. 
 
Hinds was 21-of-56 from the field (2-of-7 from 3-point range) for 38 percent. They were 16-of-21 from the free throw line. 
 
Jones outrebounded the Bulldogs, 44-39.
 
Hinds, 2-14 overall and 0-9 in the division, goes to Meridian on Thursday.
