Collins' Walk-off Helps Jones Split Day 2 at Sun Chief Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Kayla Collins finished 5-for-6 with a double and three RBIs and delivered the walk-off single to beat John A. Logan and help No. 4 Jones split on Day 2 of the Sun Chief Classic.

Jones improved to 8-2 and closed the weekend tournament 4-1 with a pair of NJCAA Top 10 wins.

After playing the first 10 games of the season on the road, the Bobcats are scheduled to host Coastal Alabama-South and Northwest Mississippi at 1 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Community Bank Park.

Live video and live stats will be available through JCJCAthletics.com.

Wallace State-Hanceville 6, Jones 2

The Lady Vols rallied for four runs in the third inning on a solo home run from Callie Ryan and two-run single from Andrea Harbin and never looked back.

Jones led 2-0 in the first after RBI-singles from Collins and Maycee Knight but was held to just two hits the final six innings.

Wallace State extended the lead to 6-2 in the sixth on Ty Wilson's RBI-groundout and Addie Robinson's triple.

McKenna Polk (2-2) went the distance in the circle, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Josie Thompson picked up the win for the Lady Vols despite six walks.

Jones 3, John A. Logan 2 (8 inn.)

Collins' walk-off single up the middle in the eighth scored Mycah Hall from second and capped off a big day for the sophomore at the plate.

Tied 1-1 in the sixth, the Lady Vols took the lead on a passed ball in the top half before Lauren Pope's RBI-double tied it again at 2-2 to eventually force extra innings.

McKenna Polk, who tossed 4.2 innings in relief to earn the win, worked out of two big jams in both the seventh and eighth. The Lady Vols had the potential winning run at third with one out, twice, before getting two groundouts and two strikeouts.

Sterling James tossed three scoreless frames to start the game with three strikeouts and no walks.
