Trammell, No. 4 Bobcats Sweep Opening Day at Sun Chief Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. –  No. 4 Jones made quick work of three opponents on the opening day of the Coastal Alabama Sun Chief Classic, run-ruling Southern Union State, No. 6 Illinois Central and No. 9 Wallace-Dothan by a combined 33-3 margin.

Jones improved to 7-1 on the young season.

The Bobcats will wrap up the two-day tournament on Saturday with games against Wallace State-Hanceville and John A. Logan. Live stats will be available for both contests by clicking here.

Jones 9, Southern Union State 1 (5 inn.)
Tyesha Cole and Kristian Edwards combined to go 4-for-7 with two RBIs and five stolen bases as Jones knocked off SUS to kickoff the day.

The Bobcats struck for four runs in the opening frame and led 9-0 after three innings.

Lauren Stringer tossed a two-hit shutout over four innings, striking out five against no walks. Carlee Nations threw the final inning to close out the win.

McKenna Polk went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and tossed a three-hit shutout in the circle in a second run-rule win.

Aubrielle Hunt's RBI-single gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead after an inning of play before the Bobcats scored the final dozen.

Jones batted around in the second, plating four runs on six hits, and scored three more in the third to lead 7-1 after three.

Edwards, LP Trammell, Maycee Knight, Raylen Blackwell and Kat Wallace all had multiple hits as JC out-hit ICC 14-3.

Sterling James struck out nine and allowed just two hits in a complete-game win in the circle and eight different Bobcats picked up a hit in the victory.

Lauren Pope was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and had two of JC's seven doubles as the Bobcats knocked off their third NJCAA Top 20 program of the season.

Jones busted the game open with a six-run fourth, using RBI-hits from Cole, Kayla Collins, Trammell, Meagan Wynne and Nations.
