Box Score MCCOMB – No. 20 Jones College posted a solid victory here in its season opener Tuesday afternoon at Fernwood Country Club. The Bobcats blanked Southwest Mississippi, 9-0.
Jones plays a scrimmage match at 1 p.m. Friday at Mississippi College. They will play Marion Military Institute (Alabama) at 2 p.m.. Saturday in Meridian.
The first home match for Jones will be a scrimmage on Feb. 7 against Delta State University.
The Bobcats rolled to easy wins in doubles.
Gaspar Meda (Argentina) and
Kwanda Mbalekwa (South Africa) defeated Daniel Espinosa and Julius Boyd in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Daniel Panzica (Brookhaven) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) beat Jexequiel Dela Cruz and Gavin Thomas 8-2 in No. 2 doubles.
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Trey Hilton (Pearl) blanked Mason Mills and Joshua King in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Meda whipped Espinosa in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Mbalekwa shutout Boyd in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Panzica beat Thomas in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Johnson blanked Dela Cruz in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Hilton defeated Dylan Bergeron in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and McWilliams beat Jacob Brown in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
