ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Lady Bobcats continued their strong defensive play here Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Lady Bobcats recorded their third straight shutout, whipping Meridian 7-0.
Jones was impressive as they posted their fourth shutout in six games. Jones has outscored its MACJC South Division opponents 18-0 in three games.
The Bobcats opened the scoring at 6:09 with a
Natasha Keen (Jersey, UK) goal on an assist by
Madison LaFontaine (Pass Christian). Jones made it 2-0 when
Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones) scored on a header on a corner kick by
Rachel Barnaby (Derry, Ireland) at 11:09.
Figueroa scored again on an assist by
Anna Grace Gieger (West Jones) at 37:43. Figueroa got the "hat trick" at 42:34 on an
Olivia Simpson (George County) assist. The Bobcats took a 5-0 lead into halftime when
Sierra McLeod (D'Iberville) got the goal and Simpson got the assist.
Jones continued to strike early in the second half when
Emily Riley (Gautier) scored on a Keen assist. Barnaby ended the scoring at 64:22 on a penalty kick.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) was in goal for 60 minutes and got the decision.
Sarah Sumrall (Northeast Jones) finished up the shutout.
The Lady Bobcats are now 4-2 overall, 3-0 in division play. Meridian falls to 1-3-1, 0-2.
Jones will host Pearl River at 5 p.m. on Sept.13 and the game will air on
JCJC.TV. Meridian hosts Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
