DECATUR – With time winding down in the second half and overtime looming at East Central on Friday, sophomore
Heather Sullivan picked the ideal time to score her first collegiate goal, lifting a shot just over the keeper's head in the 84th minute to send Jones to a 2-1 win.
The Bobcats improved to 7-5 with the victory, finally on the right side of a one-goal match – they had been 0-3. ECCC fell to 5-4-1.
Jones took the early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when
Esmeralda Figueroa found a streaking
Madison LaFontaine right in front of the box.
EC and Leah Anderson would knot it at 1-1 a minute later and the teams stayed tied for the ensuing 76 minutes.
Sullivan gave JC the lead in the 84th minute, using a pass from LaFontaine on the left wing outside the box and flicking it over the keeper's head for the game-winning goal.
EC outshot Jones 10-6 on the day, but two of Jones' three shots-on-goal found the back of the net.
Alexis Wilson had six saves to pick up her sixth win of the year.
Jones will travel to Gulf Coast on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Perkinston. The match will be
