PERKINSTON – The No. 24 Jones College Bobcats handed No. 14 Mississippi Gulf Coast its first loss of the season here Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats beat the Bulldogs, 5-4. Jones is now 13-5 on the season and MGCCC is 15-1.
Jones opened the match by winning two doubles points.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) defeated Cole Wagoner and Nicolas Bettignie in No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) beat Evan Chubb and Patrick Roth in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Cody Courtney (Florence) lost to Reid Crow and Clint Verrett in No. 3 doubles, 4-8.
Morey whipped Bettignie in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Monsalve beat Waggoner in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Johnson clinched the match with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Roth in No. 4 singles. Fischer lost to Chubb in No. 3 singles, 2-6, 3-6. Courtney fell to Wesley Fontaine in No. 5 singles 5-7, 6-4 and McWilliams lost an 0-6, 0-6 decision to Anthony Schloegel in No. 6 singles.
Jones ends its home season with a 2 p.m. Wednesday match vs. Holmes. The Bobcats conclude the regular season at Itawamba on Friday.
MGCCC goes to Southwest on Wednesday.
The MACJC/Region 23 Tournament takes place April 10-13 in Tupelo.
