ELLISVILLE – The No. 25 Jones College Bobcats defeated Itawamba 7-2 here Friday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
All three doubles matches were close, but Jones managed to win two of them.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) beat Reese Duncan and Sergio Garcia-Uruena in No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (6) and
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Cody Courtney (Florence) downed Hayden Embry and Zak Keith in No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (3). In No. 1 doubles,
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost to Franco Roland and Blake Gregory, 8-9.
Monsalve defeated Garcia-Uruena in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, Fischer downed Duncan, 7-6 (3), 6-1 and in No. 4 singles, Johnson beat Duncan, 6-4, 6-1. Courtney whipped Embry in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) defeated Brody Clayton in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Morey fell to Roland in No. 1 singles, 4-6, 2-6.
Jones, 6-3, will be at home for a 1 p.m. match Saturday vs. Blue Mountain College.
ICC, 2-4, goes to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday.
