ELLISVILLE – No. 25 Jones College blanked East Central 9-0 here Wednesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat tennis courts.
The Bobcats, 5-3, will go to Itawamba for a 2 p.m. match on Friday and will meet Blue Mountain College at 10 a.m. Saturday in New Albany.
Jones set the tone winning tough matches in doubles.
In No. 1 doubles,
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) edged Chris Lawrence and Isaac Santitto, 9-8 (7-5). In No. 2 doubles,
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) edged Dylan Barnett and Peyton Chaney, 9-8 (8-6).
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Conner Henderson (Petal) beat Isaac Keen and Jake Wofford in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
The Bobcats did not lose a set in singles play.
Morey beat Lawrence in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Monsalve defeated Santitto in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, Fischer beat Barnett, 6-1, 6-2 and Johnson downed Keen in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Cody Courtney (Florence) whipped Wofford in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1, and McWilliams defeated Chaney in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
East Central, 5-6, hosts Copiah-Lincoln on Saturday.
