CLINTON – The third quarter proved to be the difference between No. 13 Jones College and Northeast Mississippi.
The Lady Bobcats outscored the Tigers 28-10 in that period and went on to post a 72-61 victory in the opening round of the Region 23 Tournament here Tuesday evening at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.

Missy Bilderback in her fourth year at Jones, moves the Lady Bobcats into the semifinals at 3 p.m. on Thursday vs. Itawamba. ICC defeated East Central, 78-68.

In other first round games, Copiah-Lincoln downed Pearl River, 69-66, and Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated LSU-Eunice, 81-74. Co-Lin will meet MGCCC at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the other semifinal game.
The championship contest will be played at 5 p.m. Friday.
The winner of the tournament will go to the NJCAA Division I Tournament March 18-23 in Lubbock, Texas.
The game was close throughout the first half with the Lady Bobcats leading 17-15 after the first quarter and 32-28 at halftime.
But Jones took command quickly in the second half.

Kyia Weathersby (Collins) basket off an assist by
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) at 7:29 started a 13-0 run and gave Jones a 40-30 lead. Ducksworth's goal at 4:26 ended the run, giving Jones a 51-30 advantage.
Northeast did not get its first field goal of the third quarter until Lanoria Abrams scored with 4:07 showing to make it 51-32.
Ducksworth's basket at 1:43 gave the Lady Bobcats their longest lead of the night at 58-35. Jones led 60-38 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bobcats were able to maintain the lead in the final 10 minutes. Ducksworth's two free throws with 3:58 left put Jones up, 66-48
The closest Northeast would get after that was the final margin when Abrams scored with 11.3 seconds to play.
Ducksworth led the Lady Bobcats with 17 points.
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) added 16,
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had 12 and Weathersby ended the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Ducksworth had eight assists and Haymer finished with four.
Dayzsha Rogan led the Tigers with 18 points, Cherelle Jones added 13 points and 14 rebounds and Abrams had 10 points.
Jones was 26-of-65 from the field (2-of-14 from 3-point range) for 40 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 18-of-25 from the free throw line.
Northeast was 25-of-83 from the field (2-of-16 from 3-point range) for 30 percent. The Tigers were 9-of-16 from the free throw line.
Northeast outrebounded Jones, 54-46. The Tigers turned the ball over 16 times and Jones had 18 turnovers.
Northeast ends the year at 15-9.
