ELLISVILLE – The No. 24 Jones College Bobcat men defeated the 19
th-ranked Meridian Community Eagles 5-4 here Friday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats improve to 12-4 with the victory.
Jones opened the match with two wins in doubles.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) whipped Christopher Stevens and Max Mauney in No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) beat Chase Rigdon and Ethan Clopton in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Cody Courtney (Florence) lost 5-8 to Guilermo Martin Tunon and Michael Phillips in No. 3 doubles.
Morey blanked Jacob Wiggins in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Monsalve shut out Rigdon in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Fischer clinched the match with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Mauney in No. 3 singles. Johnson fell to Clopton in No. 4 singles, 4-6, 3-6. Courtney lost to Tunon in No. 5 singles, 3-6, 0-6 and McWilliams lost to Phillips in No. 6 singles, 3-6, 6-7 (5).
In extra matches,
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) and
Conner Henderson (Petal) won 8-3 in doubles and Tanious beat Corey Jones in singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Jones will host Hinds in a 1 p.m. match on Monday.
Meridian, 7-2, travels to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday.
