ELLISVILLE – The No. 24 Jones College Bobcats split a pair of matches here Satureday at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
Jones blanked Copiah-Lincoln, 9-0, and then dopped a 6-3 decision to Wallace St. (Alabama).
The Bobcats, 10-4, host Holmes in a 2 p.m. match on Monday.
No. 24 Bobcats 9, Wolves 0
In No. 1 doubles,
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) blanked Braden Ishee and Ray Drane, 8-0.
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) beat Drew Nelson and Toby White in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Noel Monsalve (Venezeual) and
Conner Henderson (Petal) won No. 3 doubles by default.
Fischer defeated Ishee in No.1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Johnson shut out Drane in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. McWilliams beat Nelson in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Tanious whipped White in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Henderson rolled past Jason Clayburn in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Cody Courtney (Florence) won No. 6 singles by default.
Co-Lin, 1-10, hosts Southwest on Monday.
No. 16 Lions 6, No. 24 Bobcats 3
The Lions swept the doubles points.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost 5-8 to Sebastian Arce and Will Brackin in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Fischer and Johnson fell to Nick Hester and Ethan Aycock, 3-8. McWilliams and Tanious lost to Andrew Bizilia and Ben Hicks, 4-8, in No. 3 doubles.
Monsalve beat Aycock in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Johnson defeated Bizilia in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2 and McWilliams beat Zach Mastin in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Jones lost three tight matches in singles play.
Morey fell to Arce in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 4-10. Fischer fell to Hester in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 7-10. In No. 6 singles, Tanious dropped a 1-6, 6-4, 7-10 decision to Brackin.
Wallace St., 11-3, goes to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday.
