Bobcat tennis teams split matches at Meridian

MERIDIAN – The 17th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats improved to 5-1 with a 7-2 victory over No. 23 Meridian Community College here Friday afternoon at the Northeast Tennis Center.
The No. 20 Meridian men beat the No. 25 Bobcats, 7-2.
The Bobcats are scheduled to host Delta State in a 3 p.m. Sunday scrimmage (weather permitting). Jones will host East Central at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
Meridian goes to Itawamba on Saturday.
No. 17 Lady Bobcats 7, No. 20 Lady Eagles 2
Jones opened the match with two wins in doubles.
In No. 1 doubles, Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Zoe Freke and Elisiva Latu, 8-4. Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and Judith Mills (Pontotoc) whipped Amber Wascomb and Sophia Calderon in No. 3 doubles, 8-1. In No. 2 doubles, Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) lost 4-8 to Kenedy Rodriguez and Rachel Vanhorn. 
Mireia Jordan beat Rodriguez in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and Ariadna Jordan downed Freke in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Viljoen defeated Vanhorn in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-5. In No. 5 singles, Mills beat Wascomb, 6-1, 7-6 and Hodges defeated Calderon in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Craig lost to Latu, 1-6, 1-6.
In an extra match, Sarah Der-Ballout (MSMS) blanked Autumn Welborn, 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Eagles are now 4-2 on the season.

Jones picked up one point in doubles.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) beat Marko Puric and Max Mauney in No. 1 doubles, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Erich Fischer (Wesson) and Jacob Johnson (North Pike) lost a close match to Chase Rigdon and Ethan Clopton, 6-8. James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and Daniel Tanious (Laurel) lost 1-8 to Guillermo Martin Tunon and Michail Phillips in No. 3 doubles.
Monsalve won in No. 2 singles over Rigdon, 6-3, 7-6. Puric edged Morey in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Mauney defeated Fischer in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Clopton outlasted Johnson in No. 4 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 10-3. Martin Tunon downed Cody Courtney (Florence) in No. 5 singles 7-6, 6-1 and Phillips beat McWilliams in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1. 
In extra matches, Tanious beat Jacob Wiggins, 6-1, 7-6 (3) and Conner Henderson (Petal) lost to Chris Stevens, 3-6.
The Eagles are now 5-1.
