MERIDIAN – The 25
th-rated Jones College Bobcats picked up a big win here on a cold Saturday morning at the Northeast Tennis Park.
Jones edged Oxford-Emory (Georgia), 5-4.
The Bobcats won two of the doubles points and split the singles matches.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) defeated Kevin Yan and Julian McCarthy in No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Cody Courtney (Florence) beat Orest Los and David George in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) lost 4-8 in No. 2 doubles to Tate Coston and Kavi Jain.
In an extra match,
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) and
Conner Henderson (Petal) blanked John Funda and Dominick Garcia, 8-0.
Morey defeated McCarthy in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Monsalve downed Coston in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4. McWilliams came through in No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over George.
Jain beat Fischer in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1; Yan edged Johnson in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-4; and Los nipped Courtney in No. 5 singles, 7-6, 7-5.
In extra matches, Tanious rallied past Funda, 3-6, 6-0, 10-4 and Henderson whipped Garcia, 7-5, 6-0.
The Bobcats, 2-0, travel to Holmes for a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday.
Oxford-Emory, 0-2, played Hinds Community College later Saturday and will face Meridian Community College on Sunday.
