No. 5 Lady Bobcats whip Pearl River for 16th straight victory

ELLISVILLE – The No. 5 Jones College Lady Bobcats outscored Pearl River Community College 41-18 in the second half and posted an 81-53 victory here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats are now 18-1 overall, 10-0 in the MACJC South Division and have won 16 straight games. If the Lady Bobcats win one more regular season game, then they clinch the division and will host the MACJC Tournament Feb. 25-28.
Jones used a 10-0 run early in the third quarter to take command.
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) converted a 3-point play with 5:51 to play in the third quarter to end the run and put the Lady Bobcats ahead, 52-37. Endia Holliday's (South Jones) rebound and putback gave Jones a 60-44 lead entering the final quarter.
A Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) putback with 8:10 remaining in the game ended a 13-0 run and gave Jones a 67-44 advantage. 
Jones' longest lead would be at the end of the game.
It was a tight game in the first half.
Jones led 12-5, but PRCC scored seven straight to tie at 12-12. A Jatyjia Jones' (Ingomar) basket gave Jones a 19-12 lead with 2:30 left in the first quarter, but the Lady Wildcats tied it at 19-19 at the end of the opening period.
Gabby Brown's 3-pointer with 8:20 to play in the first half gave PRCC its final lead of the night at 24-21. 
But Jones went on a quick 8-0 run, capped by Destiny Haymer's (Holmes County Central) 3-pointer from the right wing to make it 29-24 with 6:42 to play in the first half. PRCC cut the lead to 33-32, but the Lady Bobcats would take a 40-35 halftime lead on Vilma Covane's (Mozambique) bucket in the final seconds of the half.
Weathersby led a balanced Jones' attack with 13 points. Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) and Haymer added 11 points each and Jatyjia Jones had 10 points.
Mychala Linzy had 16 points for PRCC and Meah Monroe added 11.
The Lady Wildcats are now 13-6 overall, 6-4 in the division.
Jones travels to East Central on Monday, while Pearl River will host Hinds.
