DECATUR – No. 25 Jones College beat East Central Community College 8-1 here Wednesday afternoon in their season opening match.
The Bobcats set the tone by winning all of the doubles matches.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) beat Chris Lawrence and Isaac Santitto in No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) downed Dylan Barnett and Peyton Chaney in No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Cody Courtney (Florence) and
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) defeated Isaac Keen and Jacob Wofford in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Morey edged Lawrence in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 7-5 and Monsalve whipped Santitto in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Johnson defeated Keen in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Courtney beat Wofford in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0. McWilliams beat Dominick Donaldson in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Barnett outlasted Fischer in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
In extra matches
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) whipped Will Ladner 8-1 and
Conner Henderson (Petal) defeated Chaney, 8-2.
The Bobcats will meet Oxford-Emory (Georgia) at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Meridian. They will go to Holmes for a 2 p.m. match on Feb. 12.
East Central, 1-1, hosts Blue Mountain College on Friday.
