UTICA – The No. 6 Jones College Lady Bobcats posted a hard-fought, 54-52 decision over Hinds Community College here Monday night at J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
It was the 15th straight victory for Jones. The Lady Bobcats are 17-1 overall, 9-0 in the MACJC South Division.
Jones jumped out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter, but Hinds came back and tied the game at 20-20 at halftime.
Jones would hold a 40-37 lead after three quarters. The game would go back and forth in the final period.
The Lady Bobcats held a 54-52 lead with 12.5 seconds remaining. Hinds had the ball with a chance to tie at the end, but missed and Jones secured the victory.
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had 12 points, seven boards and three blocked shots.
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) had six assists.
The Lady Bobcats were 18-of-50 from the field (2-of-14 from 3-point range) for 50 percent. They were 16-of-24 from the free throw line for 67 percent. The Lady Bobcats had 40 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals.
The Lady Bobcats will be at home on Thursday for a big division game vs. Pearl River Community College. The game will air at 5:30 p.m. on www.jcjc.tv.
Hinds, 5-12 overall and 0-9 in division play, hosts Meridian on Thursday.
