ELLISVILLE – No. 25 Jones College dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast here iWednesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
It was the home opener for the Bobcats.
MGCCC took two of the doubles' points.
Jones got a win in No. 3 doubles when
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) and
Daniel Tanious (Laurel) beat Wesley Fontaine and Clint Verrett, 8-4.
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost 5-8 in No. 1 doubles to Austin Vos and Cole Wagoner.
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) lost in No. 2 doubles to Patrick Roth and Evan Chubb, 6-8.
In No. 1 singles, Morey rallied for a 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 win over Vos. Monsalve whipped Nico Bettignie in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Fischer fell to Chubb in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 2-6. Johnson lost a close one to Roth in No. 4 singles, 7-6, 0-6, 8-10. Fontaine edged
Cody Courtney (Florence) in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. McWilliams lost to Anthony Schloegel in No. 6 singles, 3-6, 4-6.
In an extra match,
Conner Henderson (Petal) defeated Reid Crow, 8-3.
Jones falls to 4-2, while the Bulldogs are 6-0.
Jones goes to Meridian for a 2 p.m. match Friday and hosts Delta State in a 3 p.m. scrimmage on Sunday.
MGCCC will travel to East Central Thursday.
