No. 13 Lady Bobcats crush Mississippi Delta, 88-53

ELLISVILLE – The 13th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats had no problem with Mississippi Delta here Monday in the opening round of the MACJC Tournament at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats jumped to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter and cruised to an 88-53 victory over the Lady Trojans.
Jones, 22-2, will now face Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a semifinal game. MGCCC defeated Northeast Mississippi 64-45 in a first-round game.
In Monday's other games, Itawamba whipped Pearl River 81-63 and Copiah-Lincoln downed East Mississippi, 65-47. Itawamba and Co-Lin will play a 1 p.m. semifinal game on Wednesday.
In Tuesday's opening round men's games, Pearl River faces Holmes at 1 p.m., East Mississippi plays East Central at 3 p.m., Jones hosts Mississippi Delta at 5:30 p.m. and Northeast meets Mississippi Gulf Coast at 7:30 p.m.
Championship games are slated for Thursday.
Monday's contest was never in doubt.
A Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) basket made it 14-0 with 5:30 left in the first quarter. MDCC did not get on the board until Artavia Tate scored with 4:40 left in the first quarter to make it 14-2. A Lekera Hughes (Oak Grove) basket at 2:32 made it 23-2 and the Lady Bobcats would lead 25-6 after the first quarter.
A Shammia Love basket at 6:26 of the second quarter pulled the Lady Trojans within 29-15, but the Lady Bobcats would go up 46-22 with six seconds left on a Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) bucket.
The Lady Bobcats kept up the pressure in the third quarter. A Keyara Jones goal at 5:38 made it 56-27. Jones took lts longest lead of the period when Jatyjia Jones (Ingomar) scored at 1:18 to make it 68-33. Jones led 68-37 going into the final quarter.
The longest lead of the game came when Hughes made a 3-pointer to make It 86-46 with 2:37 remaining.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points, Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) added 12 and Kyia Weathersby (Collins) had 11.
Tate topped MDCC with 12 points and Raelen Shelvin added 10.
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had seven rebounds to lead the Lady Bobcats and LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) and Endia Holliday (South Jones) had six each. Allen had five assists and Ducksworth added four. Allen and Kacey Bradford (Jackson Murrah) each had three steals. 
The Lady Bobcats were 32-of-74 from the field (2-of-13 from 3-point range) for 43 percent. Jones was 22-of-27 from the free throw line.
MDCC was 22-of-68 from the floor (4-of-23 from beyond the arc) for 32 percent. The Lady Trojans were 5-of-11 from the foul line.
Jones outrebounded MDCC, 53-41. The Lady Trojans had 27 turnovers, compared to 21 for Jones.
The Lady Trojans end the season at 7-15.
