CLINTON – The 17
th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats defeated No. 24 Hinds 7-2 here Wednesday afternoon at the Mississippi College Tennis Courts.
The Jones women are 2-1 on the season.
In men's play, the No. 22 Eagles beat the No. 25 Bobcats, 8-1. The Bobcats fall to 3-1.
Jones is scheduled to travel to Gadsden, Alabama, to play matches on Friday-Saturday.
The next home match for Jones will be at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27 vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.
Hinds goes to Copiah-Lincoln on Friday.
No. 17 Lady Bobcats 7, No. 24 Lady Eagles 2
Jones won two of the doubles' points.
In No. 1 doubles,
Mireia Jordan (Spain) and
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) whipped Paula Gutierrez and Danna Gonzalez, 8-1. In No. 3 doubles,
Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) beat Anna Hayden Taylor and Courtney Buffington, 8-2.
Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and
Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) lost to Madison Curtis and Aryelle Grace Waters in No. 2 doubles, 3-8.
Mireia Jordan beat Gutierrez in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2 and
Ariadna Jordan blanked Gonzalez, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Viljoen downed Waters in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Mills outlasted Taylor in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 and Hodges beat Buffington in No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-4. Craig lost to Curtis in No. 3 singles, 1-6, 2-6.
The Lady Eagles are now 1-2.
No. 22 Eagles 8, No. 25 Bobcats 1
The Bobcats picked up a win in No. 2 doubles when
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jacob Johnson (North Pike) beat Bryce Livingston and Chris Adams, 9-7.
In No. 1 doubles,
Jordi Morey (Spain) and
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) lost to Carlos Trujillo and Mateo Garcia, 2-8. In No. 3 doubles,
Cody Courtney (Florence) and
James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) lost to Eric Holmes and Drew Rexrode, 3-8.
Morey fell to Trujillo in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 2-6 and Monsalve lost to Garcia in No. 2 singles, 4-6, 2-6. Fischer lost to Holmes in No. 3 singles, 2-6, 4-6. In No. 4 singles, Johnson lost to Livingston, 6-3, 2-6, 6-10. In No. 5 singles, Courtney dropped a 2-6, 6-4, 5-10 decision to Adams and in No. 6 singles, McWilliams lost to Rexrode, 2-6, 6-3, 5-10.
The Eagles are now 3-1.
