No. 4 Lady Bobcats overcome slow start to beat Miss. Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – The No. 4 Jones College Lady Bobcats fell behind 7-0 to start the game, but roared back to defeat Mississippi Gulf Coast 80-68 here Monday night at the Weathers-Wentzell Center.
Jones is now 20-2 overall, 12-1 in the division.
The Lady Bobcats will host Copiah-Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with the game airing on www.jcjc.tv. "Sophomore Night" activities will take place after the game. 
Jones will serve as host for the MACJC Tournament Feb. 25-28. A tournament bracket will be released on Friday.
MGCCC goes to Hinds on Thursday.
Jones did not get its first basket until 5:55 remained in the first quarter when Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) score to make it 7-2.
The Lady Bobcats battled back and would take the lead for good when Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) scored with 47 seconds to play in the first quarter to make it 19-18. Another Ducksworth basket with 10 seconds showing gave Jones a 21-18 lead after the first quarter.
A Keyara Jones' (Heidelberg) basket with 8:26 left in the first half capped a 10-0 run and gave Jones a 27-18 lead. Kyia Weathersby's (Collins) free throw gave the Lady Bobcats its longest lead of the first half at 39-25 with 2:34 to play.
Jones led 42-30 at halftime.
The closest MGCCC got in the second half was 48-43 with 5:15 left in the third quarter on a Shelli Thigpen basket. A Maya Jones' layup with 1:24 showing gave the Lady Bobcats its longest lead of the third quarter at 61-47.
Jones led 63-52 going into the final quarter.
The Lady Bobcats took its longest lead of the game when Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) hit a 3-pointer with 4:49 left to make it 72-54. MGCCC would only get as close as 74-61 when Kayla Simmons scored at the 3:12 mark.
Ducksworth had 20 points to lead the Lady Bobcats. Maya Jones added 19, Weathersby had 15 and Keyara Jones had 13.
Breannah McCullah paced MGCCC with 18 points. Thigpen and Simmons added 16 points each.
The Bulldogs are 12-8 overall, 8-5 in the division.
