PERKINSTON – In a playoff-like atmosphere Tuesday night at Bary Thrash Field, the Bobcats and Bulldogs needed extra time to determine a winner.
Matt Burke delivered the golden goal on a header in the 96th minute from
Peyton Ratcliff and
Adrian Mondragon and Jones outlasted MGCCC, 2-1, to move into sole possession of second place in the south.
The Bobcats also stayed unbeaten on the road (6-0) and have outscored the opposition 29-4 in the six wins.
Ratcliff's brilliant header in the 29th minute, also from Mondragon, gave Jones the early 1-0 advantage.
James Redmond and the Bulldogs knotted the match at 1-1 in the 56th minute and the score remained the same into overtime.
In a physical match that combined for 24 fouls and six yellow cards, it was an MGCCC foul about 20 yards outside the box that helped setup a free kick for the game-winner.
Jones improved to 7-4, 3-2 in the south, while MGCCC had a five-match win streak snapped to fall to 8-4, 2-3.
Jones returns home on Friday, Oct. 4 to host Southwest at 7 p.m. on Sophomore Night.
