WESSON – The No. 8 Jones College Lady Bobcats shot 68 percent from the field as they rolled a 106-91 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College here Monday night at Mullen Gymnasium/Gwyn Young Court.
Jones is now 15-1 overall, 7-0 in the MACJC South Division and has won 13 straight games.
Jones could do little wrong on the offensive end of the court.
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) led five players in double figures with 23 points, including a 5-of-9 night from beyond the arc.
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) had 19 points,
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) added 18,
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) had 13 and
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) had 10. Weathersby had 10 rebounds and Ducksworth had seven assists.
The Lady Bobcats were 22-of-30 from the field in the first half for 73 percent, 19-of-30 from the field in the second half for 63 percent and 41-of-60 (7-of-12 from 3-point range) for 68 percent for the entire game.
Jones took the lead for good on
Keyara Jones' second 3-pointer to start the game at 6-3 with 7:49 to play in the opening quarter. A Haymer 3-point play gave the Lady Bobcats a 22-10 lead with 1:33 showing and Jones led 24-15 after the opening period.
The Lady Bobcats continued to shoot well in the second quarter. Jones took its longest lead of the game at 49-26 with 1:33 left in the half when Haymer scored. The Lady Bobcats led 52-36 at halftime.
Co-Lin pulled within 56-46 with 5:30 left in the third quarter on a T'Kyra Hicks basket. Ducksworth would score on back-to-back drives in the lane to end the quarter and give Jones a 79-58 lead after three quarters.
The Lady Wolves got within 86-77 with 4:02 remaining on a pair of free throws by Camryn Davis.
Darien Tubby topped Co-Lin with 19 points. Davis and Sha'Quandra Carter added 18 points each, Hicks added 17 and Azaria Magee added 10.
Co-Lin was 31-of-80 from the floor (5-of-17 from 3-point range) for 39 percent. The Lady Wolves were 24-of-31 from the free throw line.
Jones outrebounded Co-Lin, 40-32.
The Lady Wolves are now 13-3 overall, 4-3 in the division.
The Lady Bobcats will host Meridian Community College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Co-Lin will be at home vs. Pearl River on Thursday.
