SUMMIT – The No. 8 Jones College Lady Bobcats outscored Southwest Mississippi Community College 28-14 in the fourth quarter and defeated the Lady Bears, 64-51, here Tuesday night at Horace Holmes Gymnasium.
Jones is now 13-1 overall, 5-0 in the MACJC South Division and has won 11 straight games.
The Lady Bobcats had to grind it out to remain unbeaten in division play.
Southwest was up 37-36 after three quarters, but
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) hit an 18-footer from the right corner to open the final period and give Jones the lead for good at 38-37.
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) converted a three-point play and followed with a pair of free throws, as the Lady Bobcats took a 43-37 lead.
After Southwest pulled within 45-42, Haymer took over. She hit a 3-pointer and followed with two more baskets to give Jones a 52-42 lead with 4:40 to play.
The closest the Lady Bears would get would be 54-47 with 3:04 showing on a Tootie Carter basket. The Lady Bobcats matched their longest lead at the end of the game.
Southwest led 12-7 after the first quarter. Jones went ahead 20-18 on a layup by
Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) with 4:05 showing in the second quarter, but the Lady Bears would come back and take a 23-22 halftime lead.
The Lady Bobcats took a 32-27 lead with 5:06 left in the third quarter when
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) scored, but the Lady Bears rebounded to take a one-point edge heading into the final 10 minutes.
Haymer led Jones with 15 points, while
Maya Jones added 13,
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) had 12 and
Endia Holliday (South Jones) finished with 10. Holliday had 12 rebounds,
Maya Jones had 10 boards and
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) had 10 rebounds to go with eight points. Ducksworth had four assists.
Ty Lee and Carter had 11 points each for Southwest and Tootie Rankin added 10.
Jones was 25-of-59 from the field (3-of-14 from 3-point range) for 42 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 11-of-13 from the free throw line for 87 percent.
Southwest was 16-of-58 from the floor (4-of-18 from 3-point range) for 28 percent. The Lady Bears were 15-of-26 from the foul line for 58 percent.
The Lady Bobcats outrebounded Southwest, 44-33.
The Lady Bears are now 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the division.
Jones returns home to A.B. Howard Gymnasium to meet Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The game will air on

Southwest goes to Pearl River on Thursday.
