ELLISVILLE – The No. 8 Jones College Lady Bobcats never trailed as they rolled to an 84-56 win over East Central Community College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats are 12-1 overall and are in sole possession of first place in the MACJC South Division at 4-0.
Jones jumped to a 14-2 lead when Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) converted a 3-point play with 5:05 to play in the first quarter. But ECCC responded with 10 straight points to make it 14-12 with 3:16 showing when Breanna Riley scored.
The Lady Bobcats led 25-17 after the first quarter.
ECCC was within 33-30 almost midway through the second quarter, but the Lady Bobcats closed the quarter on an 11-2 run – capped by a Chyna Allen (Harrison Central) buzzer-beater – to take a 44-32 lead at halftime.
Jones started the second half on a 13-0 run to take command for good. Destiny Haymer's (Holmes County Central) basket at 6:34 of the third quarter made it 55-32. Endia Holliday's (South Jones) baseline drive with 2:05 showing gave Jones its biggest lead of the third quarter at 63-35.
The Lady Bobcats' longest lead of the game came with 1:56 to play when Allen scored to make it 83-52.
Kyia Weathersby (Collins) led four Lady Bobcats in double figures with 14 points. Haymer added 13, Allen had 12 and Maya Jones finished with 11.
Riley paced East Central with 12 points and Whitney Waters added 11. The Lady Warriors are 10-3 overall, 1-3 in the division.
Jones travels to Southwest for a 5:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
East Central hosts Meridian on Tuesday.
