ELLISVILLE – The 9
th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats placed five players in double figures and defeated Hinds Community College, 74-61, here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Jones is now 10-1 overll and 2-0 in the division.
Jones never trailed in downing the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bobcats scored the game's first seven points and went ahead 14-3 at the 4:14 mark of the first quarter on a
Destiny Haymer (Holmes County Central) basket. Jones led 19-9 after the first quarter.

Kyia Weathersby (Collins) layup to start the second quarter gave Jones its longest lead of the opening half at 21-9. But Hinds battled back to within 27-25 with 3:36 showing when Ranisha Gunn scored. The Lady Bobcats outscored Hinds 13-6 the rest of the half and took a 40-31 lead at intermission.
Jones ran the lead out to 49-35 with 4:42 left in the third quarter when
Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) scored off a rebound. But Hinds would narrow the gap to 55-49 after three quarters.
The Lady Bobcats would match its longest lead of the game at 67-53 with 4:33 left when
Keyara Jones hit a 15-footer. The Lady Bulldogs would pull within 68-60 with 2:20 remaining when Atlantis Thomas scored, but that would be as close as they would get.
Jatyjia Jones (Ingomar) led the Lady Bobcats with 14 points. Haymer had 12,
Keyara Jones had 11 and
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) and
Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) added 10 each.
Weathersby had 12 rebounds with
Maya Jones and
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) grabbing eight rebounds each.
Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) had 11 assists and four steals.
Jones was 30-of-73 from the floor (1-of-10 from 3-point range) for 41 percent. The Lady Bobcats were 13-of-18 from the free throw line for 72 percent.
Victoria Johnson had 17 points for Hinds, 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the division. Nakaylis Washington added 11 and Deja Moore finished with 10.
Jones goes to Pearl River on Monday, while Hinds travels to Meridian.
The Lady Bulldogs are 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the division.
