MERIDIAN – The No. 10 Meridian Community College Eagles defeated No. 25 Jones County, 7-2, here Thursday afternoon.
The Bobcats, 6-11, host Holmes at 1 p.m. Friday to end regular season play. It will be "Sophomore Day" at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
Meridian hosts East Central Friday.
The MACJC/Region 23 Tournament will be April 19-21 in Meridian.
JCJC's wins came in No.'s 3 and 4 singles.
Cody Courtney (Florence) rallied past Zachery Presnall in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
James Estrada (St. Stanislaus) outlasted Callan Shinall in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
In No. 1 doubles, Will Swindoll and Lachlan Ivulich beat
Mitar Milosavljevic (Serbia) and
Cody Courtney (Florence), 8-3. Marco Puric and Shinall defeated
Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) and Estrada in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Max Mauney and Ethan Clopton downed
Erich Fischer (Wesson) and
Jed Slover in No. 3 doubles, 8-3. In an extra match, Michail Phillips and Chase Rigdon defeated
Daniel Tanious (Laurel Christian School) and
Conner Henderson (Petal), 8-1.
Puric beat Milosavljevic in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Ivulich downed Monsalve in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Mauney edged Fischer in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Swindoll defeated Tanious in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In extra matches, Rigdon beat Slover, 6-0, 6-2, and Phillips defeated Henderson, 6-0, 6-1.
The Eagles are now 12-6.
